Yasaki Inari Shrine, located in Matsugaya, Taito-ku, and serving as the Ujiko shrine for the former Asakusa Matsuba-cho area, is also counted as one of the Asakusa Seven Lucky Gods.
Founded in 1642 (Kanei 19), its origins lie in the enshrinement of the guardian deity of the Asakusa Sanjusangen-do Hall, which was established by Tokugawa Iemitsu.
The shrine’s name, ‘Yasaki’ (arrowhead), comes from its location beyond the target used for ‘Toshiya’ (long-range archery) practiced in the hall.
While the main festival is held biennially, the main shrine’s mikoshi (portable shrine) is carried every year, and during the procession to the shrine (Miyairi), the powerful Kido-bushi work songs of the Tobi-gashira (heads of construction workers/firefighters) are performed.
